The Qatar government, a theocracy, partially funds Al Jazeera which is based out of Doha. While it attempts to portray itself as as concerned with “human rights”, receiving funds from a totalitarian regime is extremely sketchy. Nevertheless its reporting does provide good coverage of middle east affairs and a different point of view. Banning it looks bad on Netanyahu. All major news sources are biased so AL Jazeera isn’t exactly an exception to the rule. He just banned it because it plugs the Muslim point of view rather than his view.
Owners of media companies in every nation can’t help themselves from plugging their interests whether they be nationalism or political. Real journalism on the other hand would have to be politically neutral. Use language and reporting methodologies consistently. Just report facts and figures and leave the political editorializing for others to do..
Most so-called journalists probably don’t realize this but most journalism today is defacto a subtle form of propaganda from the top down. The ownership picks friendly upper management, The management pick friendly editor and human resources. They in turn pick friendly journalists that massage stories to push the opinions that match the ownership.. That’s why Fox is consistently rightwing and the Guardian is consistently leftwing. If they were objective journalists as they claim this would be extremely unlikely statistically.
The best news sources for those interesting in actual objectivity rather than just hearing their own views parroted…listen to the views of opposing interests with an open mind. This way you learn details the side that you think of as your own edits out. You learn things your side lies about. You learn about your side’s biases. Of course many don’t care about the truth. Even when faced with conflicting evidence they’ll ignore it. Those sorts doom themselves to their own ignorance. They just care about winning an argument for the sake of their egos not the truth. A lie is always temporary. The truth is forever.
