I have no problem with Zionism.. It’s just a desire for a Jewish homeland just like Palestinians want one (which is also fair) but I agree Netanyahu is using this as an opportunity to try to push out Arabs not just go after Hamas.
It’s easy to criticize someone else but for the most part Zionists are doing the same thing other former Ottoman nations did during their nation building formation. Push out those that don’t share their identity to liberate what they see as their homeland so they can be a majority not play second fiddle as a minority.
This is also what Palestinians want too. Most Palestinians aren’t arguing for a multiculturalist secular state but a ethnic based state. . So one-sided finger pointing at Zionism is not particularly principled. Nor is ignoring the modern Palestinian identity was created mostly out of a prior Arab identity. And Arabs have lots of other countries that formed out of the former Ottoman empire whereas Jews have just one and a small one at that..
As far as atrocities go, Jews have been mild compared to the atrocities committed by other ethnic groups in wars in the 19th and 20th century. Israel has nukes. If they were as crazy as some Hamas supporters like to stereotype them they could have erased Gaza in 1 minute with a small yield nuke.
The problem is that its the 21st century not 19th century. We have different standards of conduct today than back then. Another issue is Likud don’t want to compromise It would be like all the former Ottoman states chopping up Turkey completely leaving Turks without a homeland. That would have been unfair. Palestinians have no less right to homeland than Jews or vice versa. That’s why I support a two-state solution.
It’s also why I am hostile to Hamas since they want to completely obliterate Israel. Palestinians need more moderate leaders. While many Muslims like to criticize Kahanists as extremists, they can’t be bothered to notice there are magnitudes of order more similar undemocratic theocratic Jihadist types among Muslims. including Hamas that uses similar rhetoric. Many people in this world confuse sophistry for principles.
