I think their problem with friendly fire is that they are following their SOP. I’ve been reading a lot of Breaking the Silence (Operation Protective Edge) interviews and they are trained to have an open fire policy when entering buildings and an assumption that an area that they have told to evacuate is cleared of civilians so anyone they see has to be Hamas. One guy told how they a spotter would be looking for movement in windows and if he saw something the commander was told immediately, verified movement, then automatically ordered them to fire. “Bottom line is, shooting if you feel threatened is absolutely the most moral thing to do because the chance that it’s a civilian is very small.”
