These are not smart people in the War Cabinet.
A hostage deal, temporary ceasefire, then resumption of the “war” which could last for years?
1. Temp ceasefire = non-starter.
2. The “war” will last many years? There is a huge strain on those who are already serving in the IDF’s regular army. 8 months in, no goals achieved.
3. Israel is losing more and more support in the West (ongoing famine, genocide, … war crimes … ICC warrants … ICJ rulings … growth in Palestinian statehood recognition … student protests … etc)
4. Israel’s economy is slowly going off a cliff. Reservists taken from their jobs to fight more “years”? Potential investors scared off due to increasing uncertainty. Economic growth near zero, prices rising for everyday needs.

Israel’s security is best achieved by: permanent ceasefire, hostage swaps, commitment to two states.
