There are many independent MPs in Australia’s parliament. Only those MPs committed to a collective of policies can come together as a political party and represent the people at the same time. Senator Payman couldn’t do this. Palestine is a single issue. PM Albanese has been known to synagogue for prayers. I don’t know about his religious belief but the Labor Party is united to maintain diplomatic and trade contacts with Israel. I still see goods on Australian retail shelves originating from Israel including palm dates and couscous. People can join the BDS movement. People who join the Labor Party don’t necessarily have to be of Christian or Jewish backgrounds. Politics and religion in Australia don’t really mix thus anymore can feel free to join any registered political movement.
