It is always thus. Here in the UK the electorate has chosen parties best able to resist the Brexit extremists and the Gaza extremists. It’s impossible to know which of the two are most nefarious to the body politic. At the end of the day Labour ended up with a majority of just 174 in the House of Commons, the past administration winning just 121 seats.
