There is no question that Turkey will always remain to be a candidate for European Union membership but it will never be admitted. The members of the European Union are all European and Christian countries and Turkey is a Muslim country. Turkey became a member of NATO in 1952, one of the first countries to be admitted to NATO because the European countries understood the huge advantage they would have by having Turkey to be a member of NATO but not a member of the European Union.
