I seek not small truths. But the whole truth. Accordingly, I seek informed opinion that engages with the root to conflict. In Palestine’s case starting always with two pieces of truth:
Firstly. With the ample warnings contained in the US Woodrow Wilson’s King Crane Commission Finding. The summation to that investigation – “a national home for the Jewish people” is not equivalent to making Palestine into a Jewish State; nor can the erection of such a Jewish State be accomplished without the gravest trespass upon the “civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine”
And secondly: With the extensively debated and considered ‘1922 League of Nations Mandate for Palestine’ declaration (where Britain undertook the role of Mandate Power).
Matters then unfolded; WW2 intervened; Britain emerged from this war severely weakened and in 1945 – A recently enlisted US President Harry Truman insisted: the United Nations Charter obliged the USA to honour the spirit of the 1922 League of Nations Palestine Mandate undertaking. With equal rights for all, within a constitutionally-united land.
The US Department of State naturally supported this: the new Presidents view.

At some point in time in 1946, President Truman’s domestic popularity ratings deteriorated sharply. Truman thereafter substantially changed his view as to Palestine’s future. The UN General Assembly voted on two key Resolutions: 181 and 186.
The 186 Resolution was followed through effectively – initially with a good deal of UN Security Council and US support. Until the assassination of UN Special Representative Count Folke Bernadotte. Whereupon the situation deteriorated dramatically.
