The scandal isn’t that freedom of speech, freedom to assembly, freedom of educational institutions to protect democratic values of open debate and free speech or dissenting voices is maybe threatened by the possibility and intimidation by its show of force.
The accusations which officials and critics are stating is: To shield and defend supporters of Hamas, Israel hate and Anti-Semitism by the group of protesters who as example: Had unrolled a banner with “Free Palestine” written on it.
Because she criticized the show of force of the police while defending core principles of democratic values and freedoms, it forms a scandal to get her removed from her position.
Let’s think the protests in a few weeks: It could be come with statements, like: The right’s of Palestinians to exist and UNRWA’s right to support, exist and delivering aid for the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories in the Westbank and Gaza.
The protest would probably framed with the same accusations and narratives.
These are scandals which are intimidating and a step towards more authoritarianism than upholding principle democratic freedoms.
I don’t have much hope or trust, that the german government would be more active in defending UNRWA or the inalienable rights of Palestinians, which the UN tries to uphold.
