Next to no Israeli wants to see convicted murderes running free. Many have been released in the past, and some have come back to haunt innocent Israelis. For example the eldest Sinwar Sibling. So if Israel behaves the way it did, before 7 October 2023, and remains complacent, then new atrocities can be expected.
But Israel has changed swiftly since the kick-off of this war and continues to modify its approaches to security. Israel seems to be more willing to take strong preventative measures. It is not important that Ben-Ben-Hur and his faction remains. It is not important that this present coalition government remains. But what is important is that the Israelis are not about to go back to sleeping on the job, as before Day One of this war.
