Re: Dear world: This is what Palestinian unity looks like

This piece by Baroud reveals a deep truth. Israel tried to destroy a people physically, in their bodies; materially, in their dwellings and in their cities; and culturally, in their history as a people and in the symbols of their faith. It tried to uproot them from their land and from their claims of who they are. In its deepest form, Israel’s offensive was a war against the human being and the human spirit, incarnate in the people of Gaza. It was the kind of offensive that the world has seen against other peoples, in other places, in this modern era. And this time the offensive was the most well armed of them all, and with the most destructive weapons of them all. And it was backed in real time with clear sight and full knowledge by the entire nation that perpetrated it. Yet Israel lost, and the people of Gaza won. I think that from now on serious philosophy, serious politics, and serious history cannot be done without first grappling with this deep reality of the people of Gaza, and with their story.
