It will take years to clear most of the rubble. Within it, slowly decaying and reentering the cycles of nature, are many deceased. Some areas of rubble will remain as monuments to the ‘jihadi darkness’.
But out of the ugly can also arrive the beautiful. The rubble pushed the coast to create protective sea barriers to allow for small ports and protected beaches. Somewhere, either on land or just off the coast it will be piled slowly upwards until besting even the ancient tower of Babylon, and this Jabal al-Anqad will become a path to the Heavens.
