Re: Like the fabled phoenix, Gaza will rise from the ashes

We understand the fears of Jews in Israel and their longing for security. The security of Israelis and Palestinians, however, is inseparably intertwined. Neither group will be secure as long as the other is insecure. There is consequently no alternative to a negotiated settlement that is just, that recognizes both Palestine and Israel as fully independent sovereign states, and that provides for peaceful coexistence and co-operation between these states.

Were the lives of the French people and of the Algerians intertwined when Algeria was occupied by the French? But the Algerians managed to send the French back home and got themselves free from foreign occupation. This man does believe that the Jews have the absolute right to be in Palestine because he considers them to be of ‘Jewish descent’ but what he would like to see is a more friendly occupier, a gentler and nicer occupier. This man needs to be reminded that the Palestinians never lived with any Europeans ever and the European Jews in Palestine are as alien to Palestine as the Germans.
