Pascal’s reasoning for belief is that if the holy one does not exist, the individual incurs only finite losses. If he does exist, they stand to gain immeasurably in the afterlife and avoid eternity in hades. So why take the chance with that sort of payoff. I’ll just leave the door open right?
The problem with that thought process is one could substitute the word unicorns or leprechauns or anything else one wanted to justify as a belief.
