You raise some interesting points as usual, a real credit to this forum. I agree, Christianity (esp. in western-europe) has lost itself to consumerism, and is in a state of spiritual decay. Would benefit Christ’s mainstream ‘followers’ to drop the glitz and glam and all the other excesses. Much like the Jehovah witnesses, but without their wacky beliefs.
I still consider western-europe very much an accommodating place for religious minorities. I think ‘knowing ones place’ in a foreign country applies globally. For e.g. under the Ottomans a Church or Synagogue couldn’t be bigger or more imposing than the nearest Mosque. I’m not sure if such restrictions ever applied in western-europe.
