Most all progressive countries have separation of Church and State. The entire Middle East and North Africa, with the except of Israel belongs to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the United Nations and live under some form of Islamic Sharia. No one in the West lives under religious laws and punishments.
All of the Countries in the Middle East and North Africa, with the exception of Israel, are signatories of the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights:
Article 19: “There shall be no crime or punishment except as provided for in the Sharia.”
Article 24: “All the rights and freedoms stipulated in this Declaration are subject to the Islamic Sharia.”
Article 25: “The Islamic Sharia is the only source of reference for the explanation or clarification of any of the articles of this Declaration.”
