Generally when terrorists kill people in Paris they want to kill French people, or in London they want to kill British people, they don’t aim for Jews. The Judeans and Israelites weren’t the first to create states in Palestine, numerous other peoples did, Cananites, Moabites, Gideonites etc. Your phrase “…a collective people, …. a nation of people…” suggests the Jews are a nation of one people. Talk to a German Jew and you will find him different from a Russian Jew, and they are both different from an American Jew or a British Jew. Even in Amsterdam three hundred years ago the Dutch Jews (originally Spanish) really disliked the East European Jews who were arriving. After 500, 1000, or 2000 years in a new country the people change. Just because people rever the Old testament does not mean they are of one nation or one people. Just like for the New testament British christians are different from French christians or Italian christians. Its the country you live in that makes you who you are, not your religious beliefs. When I meet a British born moslem or sikh or christian or Jew I find I have a lot in common, because we are all British.
