I served in the Israeli army, artillery (M-105 Howitzer, 155 mm). At 45 I volunteered for 2 more years of reserve duty, and again at 47, but after a half year, somebody decided I was too old to continue, and I got a “thank you for your service…”.
1960’s sounds like Vietnam. Were you there?
I respect people who willingly serve their country, but OTOH I’m sorry you’ve been so effected by antisemitic narratives.
