It is true that many foreigners had occupied that land but they all left and the only people who renamed were the Palestinians. After Ben Gurion was expelled out of Palestine, he went to New York to live there forever and then he wrote a book in Hebrew where he said that the Palestinians were the direct descendants of the ancient Hebrews. This is what he said in the book:
The fellahin (farmers) are not descendants of the Arab conquerors, who captured Eretz Israel and Syria in the seventh century CE. The Arab victors did not destroy the agricultural population they found in the country. They expelled only the alien Byzantine rulers, and did not touch the local population.
