I believe in leaving religious people out of the equation as they all think that they know what God wants. Hamas: No Muslim shall rest until the banner of Islam flies over every inch of the land. And far right Christians believe when the Jews return to Israel, it will set up the return of the Savior of mankind.
God is just a concept and did not give the land to anyone. The Jews of Israel broke their backs to build the first independent nation in that geographical area since the Romans sacked Jerusalem 2000 years ago, and they have defended it with their lives, with no help from help from the concept of God.
