“Nothing is real anymore. Lots of theories but no persuasive evidence. “
This is exactly what you are doing.
As far as science is concerned, some problems are very difficult to answer so there are sometimes competing theories. Science does not claim omniscience. the constant revision is wisdom not ignorance as you imagine. Trial and error until a theory fits
Most of the actual crackpot “science” these days is coming from leftists working in the humanities that are not qualified as scientists or competent enough to be one (much easier to get a PhD is social “science” than theoretical physicss) but they manipulatively frame their political opinions as “scientific” as a sly method to peddle them.
A physicist by the name of Alan Sokal conducted an infamous experiment back in the 90s. He submitted a faux physics paper to a prestigious leftist humanities journal as an experiment. The physics paper was mishmash of physics terms and citations to leftwing philosophers. To anyone with even a basic understanding of physics it was easy to recognize the paper was gibberish. The paper was published!
Sokal (whose a liberal but one with integrity) later wrote the motivations for his experiment that made leftists look bad…
“The results of my little experiment demonstrate, at the very least, that some fashionable sectors of the American academic Left have been getting intellectually lazy. The editors of Social Text liked my article because they liked its conclusion: that “the content and methodology of postmodern science provide powerful intellectual support for the progressive political project” They apparently felt no need to analyze the quality of the evidence, the cogency of the arguments, or even the relevance of the arguments to the purported conclusion.”
There is great scientific rigor in hard sciences where flaws are found in imperfect theories that attempt to understand still unknown answers. In the humanities though its still often a free-for-all of scientific gibberish. If you hear the terms “social construct” followed by a preposterous theory that defies common sense… its usually “science” that originated from the humanities.
