Re: Germany, Gaza and the World Court: Broadening the scope of genocide

This is not Israel’s war on Gaza, it is Israel’s response to Hamas’s genocidal attack on Israeli men, women, and children and rounding up hundreds of Israeli hostages of all ages on Oct 7.

All this mess could have been prevented for the last six months by Hamas laying down their arms and releasing all the hostages, and yet Hamas is still threatening that there will be more Oct 7’s, leaving Israel no choice but to continue.

Hamas does not get to make deals— as the UN and the ICJ clearly called for the “immediate and unconditional release of all Israeli hostages” months ago. —Zero response

Article 147 of the 1949 Geneva Convention IV identifies hostage-taking as a “grave breach”, a status that imposes obligations to provide effective penal sanctions for the offense and to search for and prosecute offenders- (Article 146)
