Update 2: It seems i was mistaken to think I was mistaken. Disclaimer: I could still be wrong but I checked several more sources and it seems like Uma is the one misinforming….
According to these sources although the destroyed building was not the main embassy it seems to still part of the a complex of consular buildings.
“On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the
Iranian consulate annex building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in
Damascus, Syria,[2][6] killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force
commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier
General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and seven other IRGC officers. Two
civilians were killed in the attack.[4][5] The airstrike took place
during a period of heightened tension between Israel and Iran, and
amidst the Israel–Hamas war and the Israel–Hezbollah conflict. “

ABC news in the US reported this as…
“Iran
has vowed to respond to a deadly airstrike widely attributed to Israel
that demolished Iran’s consulate building in the Syrian capital and
killed 12 people, including two Iranian generals”

I also found another jpost article that gives a report suggesting Israel attacked the Iranian embassy.
“Iran faces a dilemma following an Israeli attack on its embassy in Syria: how to retaliate without sparking a broader conflict that Middle East
analysts said Tehran doesn’t appear to want.”
