When I was kid I was bought up with similar myths about Christianity. Christianity didn’t take hold in Greece (and later Europe) because of Jesus miracles, peace and love as many Christians today foolishly believe. For supposedly being a son of a god, there is no clear evidence of Jesus even existing from contemporary non-religious sources. Back then Greeks were pagans. Conversions were rare because Roman empire had criminalized Christianity..
It started to pick up steam when Roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity around 300 CE.
The last pagan emperor was later Julian one of Constantine’s nephews.. He’s called “apostate” by Greek Christians today despite that is mother was Greek, and had father was half Greek. Julian rejected Christianity in favor of Hellenism. It’s not certain how he died but Christians claimed he was killed by Christian saint Mercurius.
Back then Christians were worse than the Taliban. Most Christian Greeks today have no clue that Christens were responsible for oppressing Hellenism in antiquity and help bring on a thousand year dark age in Europe. One of the reasons I more hostile to Christianity than any other religion, is because i know the actual history of what Christian ideology did to Greece. Greece is the most Christian country in the world today. It’s not an accident we are also one of the poorest nations in Europe. Things are improving but to really fix Greece, we need more engineers, mathematicians, physicists, and other scientists along with a religious lobotomy.
