Well they removed the oppressors and moved on into Egypt. Pragmatically they were closer in relationship to the Palestinians than the Europeans.
They left an administration but not really much else. Granted the Palestinians still didn’t have independence but they had more freedom and were more akin to their neighbours.
Then the Crusaders removed the Arabs – amusingly the Palestinians fought as one. Against the Crusaders.
