PARIS — Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant slammed France on Friday for what he called “blatantly ignoring the atrocities committed by Hamas,” and said that Israel would not be a part of a trilateral committee to de-escalate the situation on the border with Lebanon.
‘”As we fight a just war, defending our people, France has adopted hostile policies against Israel. In doing so, France ignores the atrocities committed by Hamas against Israeli children, women and men,” Gallant posted on X, adding, “Israel will not be a party to the trilateral framework proposed by France.” Gallant posted his message in Hebrew, French and English.
Gallant was reacting to an announcement made Thursday by French President Emmanuel Macron, who said that the United States, France and Israel had agreed to work together to promote a road map presented by Paris earlier last February to de-escalate tensions between Hezbollah and Israel.
“With the United States we agreed on the principle of a trilateral [contact group of] Israel, the United States and France to advance on the road map that we proposed and we will do the same with the Lebanese authorities,” Macron told reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Borgo Egnazia in Italy.
