Palestinians in war-torn Gaza outraged over assault of anti-Hamas activist

Palestinians took to social media on Tuesday to vent their anger at Hamas over its alleged involvement in the beating of a prominent activist in the Gaza Strip who ended up in the hospital this week.

Hamas critic Amin Abed, 35, was returning to his home in the city of Jabalia in northern Gaza on Monday when he was attacked by 20 masked men armed with knives and batons, The Associated Press reported, citing a friend of the activist, Amer Balousha.

Balousha said that the assailants fired shots in the air when bystanders tried to intervene, and claimed to be members of Hamas’ internal security apparatus.

Photos on social media showed Abed lying in a hospital bed and receiving treatment for his injuries. His arms and legs were reportedly broken. He is now in a critical condition, according to several local reports.
