The Kaiser is said to have told the Sultan: Everywhere the Jews are a nuisance which we should like to get rid of. The Empress, for her part, is reported to have said that the journey (to Palestine) was going to be very nice; the only disagreeable thing was that she would have to see so many Jews.
The question is: why were the European Jews so extremely hated?
