First, there were no legitimate “prisoners” or POWs captured in the Global War on Terror. All were at least unlawful combatants, and therefore not entitled to the protections and privileges of the Geneva Conventions or Law of War. I do not condone torture or abuse of detainees, unlawful or not, in any way, shape or form. No DoD personnel, either uniformed or civilian ever were trained in nor took part in institutionalized abuse or torture. Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EIT) were lawful and approved at the time they were used on a handful of detainees at Gitmo and performed in order to obtain valuable information that saved many lives. Only CIA were trained in these techniques and I cannot (will not) speak for them. 745+ Gitmo detainees were RELEASED and NONE executed, beheaded, blown up, hacked to death, dragged naked and lifeless through the streets, drowned or burned alive. All things our enemies have done to us and/or our allies. Gitmo is a small piece to the big puzzle of how we win the Global War on Terror. There is no moral comparison between Gitmo and how our enemies treat their captives.
