Tunisia and Morocco gained their independence from France in 1956 but Algeria in 1962 and the reason was because France claimed that Algeria was part of France. It would take 8 years of devastating wars when thousands of Algerians lost their lives before France would consider to let go of Algeria. In 1959 at the United Nations, France was giving reasons why Algeria should not become independent because they said the Algerians could not manage their affairs without France being there showing them how to live their lives!
