Re: Anzac Day and the pageantry of deception

“Anzac Day is an occasion to commemorate the loss of life and the integrity of often needless sacrifice. But shouldn’t it also be an opportunity to reflect and understand that a country with choices about going to war and living in peace has too often decided to jump on the warmonger bandwagon? The pageantry of deception in this process risks being repeated time and time again.”

Clearly you and the idiot that wrote this nonsense have never been there on Anzac Day.
There is no pageantry. Retired service folk march, some folk march with relatives medals. Schools march. Heads are bowed.
There is invariably a band.

It is a very humble day, well to start with. It is to say thanks to those that served to give them and the world freedom.
It is very moving and sombre occasion. I shed a tear when I was there in the 90’s.
Some Aussies attend a service at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli-Turks also attend the service. And the more adventurous hike the Kokoda Trail in PNG.

On the bright side once that is over it dissolves into a good PissUp and the only day in the year when Two Up is legally played.
