1919:
The Arab army fought to win its freedom. It lost heavily: some 20,000 men were killed. Allenby acknowledged its services in his dispatches. The army was representative of Arab ideals and was composed of young Syrians, Lebanese, Hejazis, Mesopotamians, Palestinians, and Yemenis. The blood of Arab soldiers, the massacres among the civil populations, the economic ruin of the country in the war, deserved recognition.
