Before the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, there was only Serbian as an officially recognized language, because only the Kingdom of Serbia existed as an independent state at that time. After the unification, that same language was called Serbo-Croatian, because now the Croats are in the same country, with both alphabets that are completely equal. After the breakup of Yugoslavia thirty years ago, everyone calls the same language differently, according to themselves. In Serbia, the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets are officially recognized, the Latin alphabet is used far more, in Bosnia and Montenegro it is a similar case, only the Croats insist on writing exclusively in Latin. Even in international diplomatic circles, all these supposedly different languages are treated as one, the so-called Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian (BCMS) or Serbo-Croatian, whatever.
