Violent anarchist and far leftist lunatics rioting are practically a national sport in Greece. They even have several annual martyr dates where they riot for events that happened decades ago. I despise anarchists and communists but in instances they manage to protest peaceful they have a right to protest. Free speech is what it is whether I disagree with someone or not.
In this particular case of the US though the overwhelmingly number of protests seem to have been peaceful. And although there are probably some outliers, far as I can tell from afar they haven’t been peddling antisemitism as some are claiming (Here on MEMO antisemitism is the norm and easy to see). Even many Jewish students are participating in these protests which seems to nullify the antisemitism charge. Other than any instances of physical disruptions to campus facilities it currently looks bad to the rest of the world that the American establishment is using coercion against their own kids.
On the other hand, kids sometimes protest for well intended but dumb reasons. This dispute is clearly not as simple as Israel all bad and Palestinians just victims. Hamas want to wipe out Israel and have peddled that narrative for years. Every Palestinian is not a victim here. Another fair criticism is the river-to-sea slogan that seems to be present at many protests.
Alas Netanyahu continues to undermine Israel’s reputation on this river-to-the-sea issue by peddling his own version of river-to-the-sea, continued settlements, attacking Israel’s judiciary, along with having theocratic Kahanist groupies like Ben Gvir as a ministers. The Christian fundy elements in the US will support anything Netanyahu commands them. From completely amoral perspective their Biblical dumbassary seems to be what he’s depending on.. but brute force alone and populism is certainly not a principle based argument.
If morality is the concern, rather than just who has the mightiest sword at the moment, compromise is what is fair given the nature of the dispute and settlements with other similar ethnic conflicts.
