Israel’s settlement of Gaza included aspects of apartheid, because the settlers used the Palestinians in Gaza for cheap labour in greenhouses. In order to work in them they had to have permits to enter the settlements and pass through military checkpoints every day.
Al Mawasi, one of these areas declared “safe zones” by the IDF that they bombed once they corralled Palestinians into tents there, was locked in between the Israeli settlements. The Palestinians who lived in Al Mawasi needed a permit to get in and out of their own town, because their road went through the settlements. So no Palestinians could drive on it except the residents of Al Mawasi. And all of that was regulated by military checkpoints. The IDF built “buffer areas” around the settlements and either simply brought in bulldozers and wiped out the homes of Palestinians who lived in them, killing any Palestinian who objected, or MOVED IN to Palestinians’ homes. They occupied them and forced the Palestinians to stay in them – they couldn’t leave without permission – so they could use them as human shields.
Israel’s political objective is ethnic cleansing, but in fact it is much larger than that. In plain language, they want to rule the world very much like ISIS does. Certainly the settlers intend to ethnically cleanse whatever it is
they consider to be their promised land, which for some of them includes
anything before their eyes. And they believe that it is all open to
conquest, because supposedly this is God’s promise to the “chosen
people.” And the settlers are not any type of a fringe movement in Israel. They constitute at least 30% of Israel’s government through both Likud, which is Revisionist Zionism, and the Religious Zionism camp.
