Hamas cannot be allowed to return to power but at the same time the extremist elements in Israel’s government (e.g. Kach supporters) should be called out if they use the fanaticism of Hamas as an excuse to justify wantonly killing Palestinian children. Half of Gaza’s population is children. No matter how bad Hamas is or any Palestinians that supported their actions children are not moral culpability. It’s in Israel’s national interests to find a path to peace rather than play into Hamas hands by turning Israel into the villain in the global public opinion narrative. The fanatic element in all nations harm their countries. They are not patriots. Patriots love their country without hating someone else’s. A patriot can distinguish between a segment of bad players in another country and dehumanizing an entire people
