It’s so disappointing every time one hears the “facts on the ground have made the two state solution impossible”. That was exactly the argument Baby Bush made, when he said that the UN resolutions should all be forgotten, because facts on the ground have made them obsolete, because Israel had broken all of them so many times that they had no point anymore.
So then – congratulations to Israel, who ends up with the whole area, wins all of the occupied territories – because their crimes are so enormous and longstanding and ongoing, that we all just have to bow our heads in deep respect and say: Hail to Israel, for all they have done to the palestinians over all these years, now all the land is yours!
Are there anyone who really believes that the would be no more apartheid if Israel ended up owning the whole country? That the palestinians would get equal rights and be treated like respected citizens, when they no longer had any hope of their own country? Or do you think that they would be thrown out of the country – and totally, this time? The injustice of a one state soulution would be so ginormous that it can never happen. Say what you want, but it´s the one state solution that is an absolute impossibility.
There is a new hope now, that the Israelis feel so omnipotent that they finally have lost all sence of needing to mask their evilness, so they commit all their crimes as on a theatre stage, where the whole world is watching. The number of people who applaud the show are shrinking by the minute. It may just happen that the whole world changes. And it may shift the whole power-structure of the world, when people all over unite in the view that Israel and the US of A are no longer the ones who call the shots anymore. Just a few meetings between China and Arab countries and maybe som E7 or Brics, and there is a whole new sheriff in town. Who that may be, we cannot imagine at this time. But when that day comes, and USA goes bankrupt and no longer can send a dime to Israel, Israel will have to withdraw from all the occupied territories, and make peace. Not with ANY negotiations, but according to the UN resolutions – Palestine will never be pressured to give up another centimeter. There will be a peace agreement, and with lots of UN peacekeeping soldiers on the border, for years to come. And all of the countries in the world will have to contribute, gladly, to the rebuilding of Palestine. And perhaps also help Israel financially, since it will be lying with a broken back when the money from the US runs out.
And all of those wonderful houses in the illegal settlements, with all of their luxury gardens, will be abandoned by the retreating occupants. And they will make very needed housing for hundreds of thousands of palestinians, currently without any homes.
Why would anyone believe that the two state solution is dead, just because there are a lot of illegal settlers in illegal settlements? The day an occupant has to pull out, they pull out. With tanks, soldiers, and with all of their illegal settlers. I am Norwegian, and we were occupied by Germany, only for five years, admittedly. But it’s in our national DNA, that when an occupant state pulls out, and all the tanks drive off, the country is free. And the jubilation can start. That is my hope.
And as a final comment: when I was born, in 1958, there were perhaps some Norwegians who still hated Germans. By the time I was a teenager, Germans were Germans, like they are today. And it would be unheard of, that anyone should hate them, just because some previous Germans occupied us, a long time ago. Hate comes from occupation – and both resistance and hate dissolves into nothing when the occupation is over.
