Re: Egypt says preparing ‘comprehensive’ plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing Palestinians

One of the advantages of the rubble produced over these years of war, is the fortification of the Gazan coast line. Well placed rubble works as effective sea barriers with multiple small ports, and reduces the big sea’s erosion.

On the other hand the jihadis’ pilfering of funds for their war machine preparations, has augmented some serious ecological problems for the ground and water tables under Gaza. The two northern two governorates have some very serious pollution problems, that might be able to un-do. Not only the sewage that goes into the water table, cut also the agricultural chemical run-offs.

Although the rubble sea barriers will help, quite likely the water table will not be able to be recovered to a sanitary level. The brackish levels continue to rise.

The decades of burrowing mammals in Gaza has created a serious sponge-effect of the seawater off the coast. The burrows/tunnelling often interconnect and allow for major seawater infiltration, augmenting the brackishness of the water table. This also complicates the choices of reconstruction. What Mother Earth has created over the millenniums, the recent burrowing by these invasive short-sighted mammals has altered the delicate eco balance.
