Re: Ending rocket fire from Gaza unlikely, say unnamed Israeli army officials

Iron Dome can be overcome by simply firing more rockets than Iron Dome can intercept. Once an Iron Dome battery is out of interceptor missiles, it is useless…and each of those interceptor missiles costs between $20 – $50 thousand dollars.

Iron Beam is equally vulnerable because its lasers require clear atmospheric conditions for the beam to not be diffused prior to striking the target. So, it is useless during rain storms or when any other atmospheric obstructions such as fog, smoke, or sandstorm dust impede the beam. Not only that, all Hamas would have to do to cause the heat absorption to be delayed is paint their missiles with a more reflective white/chrome paint or re-design the tail fins to give the rockets a ballistic spin as bullets do when flying through the air. The beam has to stay on one spot for the heat to build to the point of causing an explosion. Spinning the missile would distribute the heat to a fresh unheated part of the rocket surface with each spin. The only way for “Israel” to overcome that is to create heat faster by increasing from the 100 Kw current laser to a more powerful laser…which they have not succeeded in doing thus far.
