Palestine (Palestina) was the name given to Judea by the Romans when they quashed a Jewish revolt and exiled the Jews c. 135 A.D. The Philistines had been mortal enemies of the Jews, so naming the land after them was intended as a deliberate in-your-face insult to the Jews.
Along with the archaeological discoveries, the DNA study solidifies the theory that Philistines were most likely Greeks. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah commemorates a historical event that took place in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BCE, when the Seleucid Greek empire was the ruling power.
