Israel and it’s Government call a possible Palestinian State a thread to Israel and it’s security
Germany didn’t recognize the OPT as Palestinian territory or as an territory, which Palestinians should have sovereign control and self determination of this territory.
It declared in past official statements: They categorical reject to accuse Israeli policies as systemic discrimination against palestinians.
-They support a possible pathway of a negotiated resolution to end the conflict and finally realize a 2 state solution in a peace process.
But Germany recognizes Israeli has sovereignty rule over territories of the OPT and that any solution must be a negotiated settlement of the conflict over the territories between Israel and Palestinians, which borders or security arrangements any future solution will have to realize a 2 state solution.
If the advisory opinion of the ICJ, will have any effect for germany to put pressure on Israel, to abide by international law and end the occupation and settlement of territories of the OPT?
Till now, there is no real sign of political will to do it.
The near future will show, if germany will adopt and accept the obligation named in the advisory opinion of the ICJ for the international community to not render the occupation of Palestinian territory as legal or to aid and support the occupation of it.
The ICJ is clear and detailed, it shows the severity and extend of Israeli policies applied in the OPT and to Palestinians. They conclude that it is in breach and violates the forth geneva convention and is a systemic form of racial discrimination, something Germany till now categorically rejected to recognise (Israeli policies) as such, a (discriminatory) System
(against the Palestinians).
So all have to wait and see if the ICJ advisory opinion will have any effect on german politics and policies.
