The answer is in your question… it was actually closer to 90 percent of the Island was Greek at the time before Turkey stuffed in more settlers. I’d also point out back then Greece was one of the few European countries that felt sympathy for Palestinians, I don’t recall Palestinians objecting to Turkish settlers in Cyprus over these last 50 years. Nor condemning Turkish irredentism in the Aegean. Nor standing up for Greeks in the name dispute. One eventually gets tired of getting kicked in the head.
