Because Palestine is a geographical area on the map, not a specific people. If you wanted to be a Palestinian, you have to build an independent Palestinian nation. In 1948 you were just Arabs, called yourself Arabs, the PLO joined the League of Arab Nations in 1976. Hamas ousted the PLO from Gaza in 2007. Palestine is just an observer at the United Nations General Assembly. This is 2023!
