It came about because the U.S. installed him after the CIA overthrow of the democratically elected Mosadegh, loved by both rich and poor. He kicked out all the western oil companies stealing their oil and nationalized it. Of course the Us wanted none of that. They overthrow every democratically elected president, so nothing new there however I think Mosadegh was the first.

Without going into how horrible and murderous the shah was, when he was gone, the new govt led by ayatollah Komeini got busy executing all the murderous individuals connected to the shah. Many were the Jewish hanger ons. The rest of the Jews fled and unfortunately for the countries involved wound up elsewhere. So many in the U.S.
