Few people approve of terrorism. However, most people who reflect even slightly on matters, realise that wrongful actions by countries cause legitimate grievances that, when profound, cause, fuel or increase terrorism, whilst good actions and the addressal of legitimate grievances can decrease and disperse terrorism.
Israel is going to have to face up to the fact that the actions and intentions of its leaders, many of whom have and do entertain Greater-Israel ambitions, have over many many decades fueled the terrorism that it is facing in these days.
Lessons can be learnt from Britain in dealing with the IRA and its terrorist bombing campaign. It realised it couldn’t win, and also realised that its own actions of occupation had been the fuel for the terrorism, and as a result formed a peaceful resolution that gave a path toward self-determination that saw the ending of the terrorism.
Had Britain followed the Israeli ‘solution’ of bombing Ireland to pieces to get the terrorists, it would instead have had the opposite effect, and instead of solving the problem, would have magnified it manyfold.
Where terrorism is caused by legitimate grievances, you can only beat it by addressing those grievances, particularly by giving a meaningful path that can be followed where time is required. The terrorism will of itself go away as that path is followed.
