Update 3: To be fair to you, the NY Times argues there are some instances that attacks against embassies are allowed under international law. I don’t buy the argument in this particular instance since this exception mentality could be also be subsequently be used as justification to attack practically any embassies, including Israeli ones… which Israel would no doubt object to.
