Extreme Turkish nationalists have a history of making false claims to justify conflict with Greeks and others. The most poignant example occured back in the 50s. The Turkish government secrety arranged to have Attaturks home bombed in Thessaloniki. This, state sponsered terrorist act, was subsequently blamed on Greeks then used by extreme Turkish nationalists as a pretext to go on a murderous pogram of Greeks, Jews, Armenians and others in Constantinople.
The Turkish press to this day doesn’t mention the “minor” detail that the Turkish agent that bombed Attaturk’s home was caught and confessed. Nor has Turkey ever officially apologized for this false flag terrorist operation on Greek soil nor the subsequent attrocities it commited against Greeks
