Although I use the term “atheist” for simplicity sake I am not in principle opposed to religion. I am not even in principle opposed to existence of Leprechauns either. l adore science which is why it seems like I oppose these ideas.
Rather than like every other version of some alleged deity that’s always hiding, If some giant head ripped the universe in half and bellowed across billions of lightyears “I am the creator of everything and here are my views.”., I’d change my mind and believe in that exact entity. I would not believe that entity was the same one sundry prior human cults claimed it to be unless it claimed to be the same entity.
Various religions provide not only no evidence of there entities existence but narcissistically claim to know their’ supreme deities views. Their confidence level is the inverse of the evidence level thus demonstrates a lack of objectivity. They have been conditioned by their backgrounds and upbringing to believe what they believe. That’s why Jews tend to be believe in Judaism. Muslims in Christianity. Greeks in Christianity. And so on. They’ll all claim it was a “choice’ but it was really conditioning and possibly emotional needs.
As for evolution… there exist millions of pieces of evidence from credible sources. There is academic consensus on the issue because there is not a single piece of physical evidence that contradicts it. Although some of details are missing there is no current competing scientific theory to evolution. Someone that claims evolution isn’t real today in academic circles is regarded as a crackpot.
You could easily examine the evidence if you liked but like practicing Christians, Muslims, Hindus et al you suffer from cognitive bias due to the way you (and your religious peers) have conditioned your brain. I’ve had this debate with many many religionists over the year including my mother. I know there is zero chance I will convince you, You have access to the Internet. You have to choose to walk through that door yourself like I once did. As a kid I brought up to religious myths too but fortunately I had a love of philosophy which exposed to many ideas that made realize how foolish I was behaving.
