In 1899, the Muslim mayor of Jerusalem was complaining that the Jews would be much better off going somewhere else and then Herzl heard about it and I wrote a letter to the mayor telling him that the Jews are such a wonderful people that he should not have to worry about them coming to Palestine. He did not include that letter in his diary and the reason is because he worried that if others came to know about what the mayor said that it might cause problems for the progress of his Zionism.
