The Israeli army continues to disperse its forces in anticipation of the potentially more serious threats from outside Gaza. By segregating Gaza into north and south, it can help reduce the security risks of Gaza’s returning to the northern two governorates. The clearing of a NML along the Gazan side of the border with Israel will make it easier to detect any armed Gazans approaching the border. Now the continued mapping of the Rafah governorate for weapons and personnel movement of the Gazans continues. As the Israeli army relaxes its presence around Rafah, then many Gazans will move to safer zones in anticipation of the Rafah offensive.
